Welcome to the web site for the Law Office of Guy M. Kerner. My name is Guy M. Kerner and I am the author of this website.
My law practice focuses primarily on family law issues. This includes custody, divorce, legal separation, property division, domestic violence cases, child in need of aid cases, juvenile law, guardian ad litems, social workers, custody investigations, among other specific areas of family law.
I graduated from "The American University, Washington College of Law" in Washington D.C. in 1993. I then worked for Alaska Legal Services (about 3-4 years), then the Alaska Public Defender Agency (7 years) and in 2005 opened my own private office handling family law cases which I do to this day. I am originally from Fairbanks, Alaska, born and raised, but my career has taken me all over the State of Alaska. Anchorage has been my home since 1999. I have and still continue to take cases from Palmer, Kenai, Homer, Seward, Valdez, Bethel, Sand Point, Fairbanks, Juneau, etc. as well as Anchorage.
I have a great deal of trial and other courtroom experience as well as experience in resolving family law matters resulting in positive outcomes for my clients - whether it be custody with their children, ownership of their house, child support issues, getting or defeating a restraining order, setting reasonable child support, appealing a case to the Supreme Court of Alaska or obtaining a not guilty verdict in a criminal matter.
Every case is unique. Family law issues and cases can be stressful. However, my goal is to guide you through the legal and court processes to get the best outcome possible for you regarding your children, property and protecting you from legal consequences.
Please contact me regarding your legal situation or even just a question. For the most part, I am happy to take a 10 minute or so phone call, for no charge, to answer a quick question or to at least point you in the right direction. Depending on your question or situation, you may want to set up an intake appointment with me where you and I will go over your situation in depth. Intake appointments last from one to two hours. The goal is for you to walk out of an intake appointment with your questions answered and with a plan of action on how to address your legal situation. I do charge for an intake - a flat fee of $300.00. I do accept MasterCard and VISA.
After the intake appointment you may have the answers you need to go forward on your own or you may decide you want to hire an attorney to help you. There are a variety of ways to hire an attorney: full service, retainer, hourly and/or unbundled. There are also court system programs and forms of alternative dispute resolution that can greatly reduce cost for a family law case.
I hope this website is informative for you and please contact me with your legal questions and situations.
